President of the Residential Housing Association

The President of the Residential Housing Association (RHA) is the chief representative of over 12,000 on-campus residents at Texas A&M University. As the top elected student in RHA, the President oversees the Executive Board, advocates for resident needs, and leads organizational strategy in collaboration with university partners and the Department of Residence Life.
Responsibilities
- Preside over Executive Board and General Assembly meetings
- Serve as the public spokesperson for RHA and on-campus residents
- Meet regularly with Residence Life leadership and campus administrators
- Appoint chairs and assist in the onboarding of the Executive Board
- Represent Texas A&M RHA at regional and national leadership conferences
- Ensure the vision and mission of RHA are upheld across all initiatives
Election Process
The RHA President is elected each spring semester through a campus-wide election coordinated by the Residential Housing Association and the Student Government Association Election Commision. The process typically includes a formal application to run, campaign period, and public speeches at a candidate forum. All on-campus residents are eligible to vote.
Requirements to Run
- Must be a current Texas A&M student living on campus
- Must have been an active member in Community Council or the RHA Executive Board during the previous session or semester
- Must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the university
- Must be enrolled in at least half time
- Must be available for summer training and year-long commitment (Fall–Spring)
- Must not be in current probationary status with the Department of Residence Life or with the Student Conduct Office
- Must not be employed by the Department of Residence Life as a Residence Advisor (RA) or Academic Peer Mentor (APM)
Steps to Run for President
- Step 1: Review the eligibility requirements and responsibilities listed above.
- Step 2: Visit election.tamu.edu to access official election resources, including the Election Regulations and filing deadlines.
- Step 3: Submit your Declaration of Candidacy form through the designated filing system on election.tamu.edu.
- Step 4: Attend the Mandatory Candidates’ Meeting as scheduled by the Election Commission.
- Step 5: Prepare your campaign materials in accordance with the Election Regulations.
- Step 6: Participate in the candidate forum and engage with on-campus residents during the campaign period.
- Step 7: Election Day — on-campus residents vote through a secure online ballot.
- Step 8: If elected, attend summer training and begin your term officially in May.
