Featured Questions
What is RHA?
The Texas A&M Residential Housing Association (RHA) is the official student voice for on-campus residents. We represent the interests of students living in the residence halls and university apartments, advocate for meaningful improvements, and build community through large-scale events, leadership development, and campus traditions.
Who is part of RHA?
If you live in a residence hall or university apartment at Texas A&M, you’re already part of RHA! Each hall is represented by a Community Council, and every resident has the opportunity to get involved, speak up, and lead.
About Texas A&M RHA
What does RHA do?
RHA works to enhance the on-campus living experience. We:
- Advocate for student needs by representing residents to University Housing and campus partners
- Fund hall improvements and programming through Community Council support
- Host large-scale programs like War of the Halls and Mod Quad
- Develop student leaders through leadership retreats, conferences, and involvement with NACURH
- Recognize excellence through Of The Month (OTM) awards and national bid submissions
What’s the difference between RHA and Community Councils?
Community Councils operate within each residence hall and focus on hall-specific leadership, events, and feedback. RHA supports all Community Councils, offers funding and training, and connects them to the broader university and national residence life network.
General Membership & Participation
Do I have to pay dues to be part of RHA?
No. If you live in a Texas A&M residence hall or university apartment, you are automatically a member of RHA—there are no membership fees or dues.
Can graduate students or international students be involved?
Absolutely. All on-campus residents, including graduate and international students, are welcome to participate in RHA activities, serve on committees, and run for leadership positions.
Funding & Support
How can my hall get funding for an event?
Community Councils can submit extra funding requests to RHA for hall programs or initiatives. Requests should include event details, a budget, and an explanation of how the extra program funds will help benefit the residents.
What items can Hall Improvement Funds cover?
Funds can cover durable items or upgrades that benefit the entire hall, such as lounge furniture, recreational equipment, appliances, or community art. Consumables or personal items are not eligible.
Leadership Opportunities
What leadership positions are available in RHA?
Positions exist at both the hall level (Community Council officers) and campus-wide level (RHA Executive Board, committees, and conference leadership). Opportunities vary throughout the year.
Do I need prior experience to join RHA leadership?
No prior experience is required—just enthusiasm, commitment, and a willingness to learn. RHA provides leadership training and mentorship for all student leaders.
Events & Recognition
How are halls selected for War of the Halls?
All halls are invited to participate. Points are earned through various competitions and activities during the event, and the three halls with the highest score wins the extra funding and bragging rights for the year.
Can I nominate someone for an OTM if they’re not in my hall?
Yes. OTMs can recognize individuals or programs anywhere within the on-campus housing community, not just your own hall.
Conferences & Networking
How can I attend a NACURH or SWACURH conference?
RHA selects delegates each year to attend leadership conferences. Applications open ahead of each event depnding on availability, and costs are covered by RHA for selected delegates.
What benefits come from attending a conference?
Attendees gain leadership skills, network with other student leaders nationwide, share program ideas, and represent Texas A&M at the regional and national level.
